STEVEN TIPS

Around 2005, Steven Tips (1987) started his journey in the world of photography.
His dad bought a camera, but it was Steven who claimed it.
Obsessed by photography, Steven worked day and night to develop himself as an artist.

After many hours behind the camera, his efforts paid off and he got more and more assignments.
In his spare time between regular photography jobs, he started to create his own artwork, building settings and creating stories.
This eventually lead to Steven’s own style, creating strong portraits and decors partly inspired by David Lachapelle and Gregory Crewdson.

STEVEN’S ARTWORK

SPECIAL ART WORK

SAFE SEX

It all started of with a bucket of blue paint that Steven got from a random guy and a piece of plastic he claimed from a friend who’s new mattress was wrapped in. He combined the two elements with the work of the 2 photographers who always inspired him. The hardness in the photos of David LaChapelle and the intellectual stratification of Gregory Crewdson.

All decors where build by Steven himself. Working without a stylist, painter, production manager, agency or assistant, Steven developed his own style and made his mark in the world of photography.

The photos reveal just as much as it holds back. Lust, safety and fragility. Plastic seems to be a practical expression of frugality and pride. Plastic is taken off when someone really important is there.

In the series “Safe Sex”, every day homely places, living room, bedroom, kitchen, are revealed with strange human surrealistic scenarios.
